ONE DAY, REFLECTING HIMSELF IN THE WATERS OF A STREAM, HE DROWNED AND THE GODS, MOVED WITH PITY, TRANSFORMED HIM INTO THE HOMONYMOUS WHITE AND YELLOW FLOWER.

Generally this myth was not much experienced by painters. Caravaggio’s Narcissus is very far from the Greek world because Caravaggio makes it current. The artist paints a symmetrical reflection of Narcissus, extremely realistic and which deceives the boy of the myth, and if it were not for his transparency, he could also deceive us. In this case, the artist chose to capture the topical moment of the entire story on the canvas: the previous instant in which Narcissus is approaching his reflection mortally, before falling into the river. The composition of the scene is perfect and symmetrical: the aforementioned transparency of the character in the lower part of the painting makes us understand that the latter is a reflection.

Italian water lakes and Lakes of Alban & Central Italy

Italian water lakes: Albano & lakes of Central Italy

The lakes system of Central Italy, consisting of five medium-sized lakes (Trasimeno, Bolsena, Bracciano, Vico and Albano) and eight other smaller ones, collects a total volume of water equal to 15.6 km3, approximately 11% of italian hydro-lakes resource, and it is the second, in Italy, after the Alpine lakes disctrict of Lombardia region.

The water balance for lake Bracciano, Albano and Nemi was resolved in the period between 2000 and 2005, the works highligth various criticality, but essentially, a decrease of the hydrometric levels for all three lakes. At the same time, the quality of the surface waters was studied and a widespread state of pollution was detected, especially in the summer period and in areas characterzed by a greater anthropogenic pressure.

The work also highligth that the loss of the level of the lakes is essentially due, for lake Bracciano, to exasperated water withdrawals which were particularly intense in 2007, while for lake Albano to a decrease of groundwater recharge.

It is therefore necessary to deepen the level of hydrogeological investigation to evaluate the recharge of the aquifer, at this regard, in the context of the nascent “Contract of lake Albano, Nemi and Incastro river”, some sholars have given their willngness to contribute to the study of the problem with the aim of proposing solutions to what that appears to be as an “irreversibile swamping” of the lakes of Central Italy.

Franco MEDICI BIOGRAFIA
Has received his Master Degree in Chemical Engineering at “Sapienza” University of Roma in 1980. He has been working since 1983, as researcher, in the Applied and Chemical Institute of the Engineering Faculty of the L’ Aquila University. Then, he joined in 1989 the Department of Chemical Engineering, Raw Materials and Metallurgy of “Sapienza” University of Roma. Since 2000 he is Associate Professor of “Materials Science and Technology”, and he teaches “Materials Technology” to the students of Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering of the same University.
He was scientific coordinator of the research national program (Italian Ministry of Education PRIN 2006) titled: “Recovery of waste materials: technological research, industrial scale up and legislation”. Actually, he is Editor of a Special Issue titled “Recovery of waste materials: technological research and industrial scale-up” (MDPI-Materials).
His current research seeks to investigate stabilization of industrial wastes, recovery of waste materials and lakes pollution control. He has published 130 scientific papers exclusively on the above mentioned topics, his H-index (Scopus) is equal to 19.
